Now I know this is crazy.

But I've managed to fill an 8 gig iPod with clarinet music, all except 112mbs.
I have a question for you all.
If you were stranded on an island with nothing but a CD player, ear phones, and a CD with clarinet music, what would that CD be?

The DVD from wooden boat school about how to build an ocean-going canoe.

"The DVD from wooden boat school about how to build an ocean-going canoe."

Assuming it had a clarinet accompaniment, right?

For me it would be a tough choice between the Brahms Quintet, the Mozart Quintet, or the '54 Buddy De Franco Quartet w/ Art Blakey.

Any CD would do. If all I had is clarinet music, I'd have to shatter it and use the jagged edges to slit my wrists ...

I don't know that one. Could you hum a few bars?

I think the bars are down the street from the wooden boat school.

If someone can provide the text, I'll write the music. Otherwise, I'm with Mark on this one, except I might just throw it in the ocean.

Sorry, Le9669, about my digression.
You asked about a clarinet CD for stranded enthusiasts.
If that's really all I'm allowed, I'm sure I'd have the standard classical rep: Mozart, Weber and wind music from Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, Debussy, Stravinsky, etc. I'd also have a slew of Benny Goodman tracks.
Nothing unique or offbeat about any of this. But I wish you'd allow room for the Well Tempered Clavier, Beethoven and Haydn string quartets, Sousa and rock.
Without some variety, as Mark pointed out, rescuers would probably only find the CD player functioning when they reached me.

What will power your hypothetical CD player?

The Matrix, perhaps.

Having said that, I'd prefer to have my clarinet with me instead of a player with just one CD.
Unlimited repertoire (over time, that is) and unlimited play time. I'd have to learn to harvest my own reeds, probably.

It'd be a CD of Brahms clarinet quintet and Brahms clarinet trio (clarinet, cello, piano). Something about brahms' chamber music just REALLY makes me mellow and just smile.

Wouldn't wind powered be more appropriate?

Sidney Bechet (c.1938-1942), Artie Shaw (Gramercy 5 last recordings), Pee Wee Russell (anything), Duke Ellington (Jimmy Hamilton years) - I didn't put the last one in for the clarinet, even though I think Hamilton is great, but I don't want to go to the island without Ellington.

Or you could just use legere reeds and not worry about finding or making more.

This solar-powered battery charger would come in handy:

The CD would be:

CLARINET MARMALADE: 25 Great Jazz Clarinettists
(Academy Sound and Vision Ltd.) CD AJA 5132

Original mono recordings from 1918 to 1943 by Larry Shields, Pee-Wee Russell, Omer Simeon, Benny Carter, Lester Young, and twenty other great players.

Not a bad cut on the CD. Sound quality is very good.

Mike
