I just bought a well-loved Bass Clarinet and I'm afraid that it contracted some bent keys in shipping. I know this repair generally takes a monkey, a set of smooth pliers, a screw driver, and perhaps some key oil, but I'd prefer to simply start working with a good tech rather than having to shop around as I need repairs. Therefore I'm looking for recommendations from you other Austinites on a good local repair tech.
(Note: Yes, I have discussed it with the seller and he is certainly holding up his end of the bargain.)

How cool! I just moved from Austin this year to go to Interlochen Arts Academy! Small world, huh? Well, I don't know if anyone's told you about this guy yet, but he did some work for me when I was in Austin and is usually highly recommended. His name is Alan Franklin and he works at Strait Music on W. 5th. Well, I hop this guy can help you get your clarinet fixed and it's really cool to here from an Austinite on the bulletin board. : )

May I suggest that John Butler, near Houston, and Carl and Steve McGuire in Tulsa OK are my favored repairers for clarinets in general. Is this plug OK, Mark C ?? Don

Seek out Rex Bullock. He was working for H&H/Brook Mays but now has taken over the old Ed Meyers Co. (pads and supplies) and moved the operation to Austin from Omaha. Look in the phone book under Ed Meyers Co. hopefully it will be listed. I've lost contact with him since he left H&H/Brook Mays fold, but Rex is an excellent technician and if he can't get to it himself will be more than qualified to make a recommendation.

I tried to find Meyer Music Company, but the listing in the phone book was incorrect. I called information, and there was no such animal.

Rex has given my quite a few tips over the years. He is quite a technician. Like I said, he has taken over the defunct Ed Meyers Co, and I don't know how much time he is devoting to repairs himself. However, if he can't do it he will certainly only recommend someone he trusts or has trained.
