I would like to put in a good word for the Buffet Showroom in NYC, and the manager, Laurie Orr.
I went in last week to try B-flats, E-flats, and low C bass. I tried every instrument in the showroom, simply looking for the best instrument there, be it Tosca, Festival, R-13, RC or Prestige, and ended up selecting a wonderful 1193 bass and an incredible RC Prestige B-flat. My friend and colleague Bohdan Hilash was of great assistance in this process, as he has tried literally hundreds of instruments (at Buffet in Paris) for many pros in the NYC area, and Laurie was extremely courteous, warm, and helpful in this entire process. I went in today to pick up the RC Prestige B-flat (which actually had been picked out at the factory by Mark Nuccio, a fact I discovered after my selection process was complete), and Kristin Bertrand set up the instrument beautifully (her shop is inside the showroom.) Francois Kloc was also there last week during my first visit, and he was very helpful answering my questions as well as doing adjustments to the various instruments.
The showroom does not sell directly to customers, but if you find an instrument to your liking, you may arrange to purchase it from any authorized Buffet retailer.
All in all, an excellent experience, and I am extremely pleased with these instruments.
