 Muncy Clarinet 12 Reed Case

I remember someone of the board had once inquired about this case and it got me curious enough check it out.

It is not only noteworthy in it's sound construction but its unique and practical design. It is a double hinged design with for all practical purposes a lid enclosing a piece of (plate?) glass on either side. This way, you can store twice as many reeds in the same amount of space. It is clasped by means of these rather powerful 'new earth' magnets that are becoming omnipresent in trinket boxes and 'brain-food-toys.'

I have only been using this for a few day now but must say that I absolutely love this product!!! I have found for myself, that storing the reeds butt end toward the hinges (opposite of the Muncy provided image) makes for a more secure opening and closing operation (for my clumsy hands).

Huh?
I found something that is like silly putty (comes in "temporal lobe teal" color, and grey matter) but not sure if that is what you mean.

Explain, please

I stopped into one of those 'Your-Kids-Are-Geniuses' stores and just looked around. On a shelf off to one side they were selling what looked to be a small bar shaped clear plastic box of what appeared to be ball bearings for $30. The ball bearings (not much bigger than what you'd dump out of a bicycle wheel during a lube job) were all HIGHLY magnetized 'new earth' magnets. You can take the wad of ball bearings and stretch, shape, pull on it just like modeling clay and not fear that any of the ball bearing will fall out. To my old school experience, this was the equivalent of "black magic." Back in the '70s, you needed a significantly large, thick, heavy horseshoe shaped iron magnet to achieve a magnetic field this strong without a constant electrical current.

They're usually called "rare earth magnets" or "neodymium magnets." I carry them in my case to hold music to metal stands. They're available from many sources.

I suggest half a dozen 1/4" x 1" http://www.amazon.com/Magcraft-NSN0719-4-Inch-Magnets-6-Count/dp/B001DCX8YY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1293493971&sr=8-7 plus a couple of 1/2" x 1" http://www.amazon.com/Magcraft-NSN0656-2-Inch-Magnets-2-Count/dp/B001DCVGCK/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_text_b.

I asked a traveler passing through Boone last summer to buy a tenor sax reed case for me at Muncy. I think she bought one of these cases (notice the description says it will hold tenor sax reeds). The case is much too small for tenor sax reeds. I called Muncy and was told the web site was in error, they would fix the web site and offered to refund my money including freight. I decided I liked the case and kept it for B-flat clarinet or alto sax reeds.

After waiting a few weeks and seeing no change on the web site, I submitted a review on their web site critical of the product description (there were additional problems besides not holding tenor sax reeds). It was a few more weeks and I think a follow up email before the review appeared. I noticed the web site has been revised and my review is gone.

I like my reed case, but unless they have changed the product it will not hold tenor sax reeds. It looks good. The magnets are strong. I expect one of the strips of foam holding the reeds in place will probably be the first thing to fail, but not soon.

Looks quite elegant! However, I took David Pino's advice and got a microscope slide box and a lot of glass microscope slides, plus tiny rubber bands from an orthodontist, as use those to store my reeds.

It's terribly cheap, and keeps the reeds perfectly flat.
