Last Wed evening, I played bass clarinet with the newly formed Middleton Community Orchestra. Already a good ensemble of over 80 volunteer musicians, for their second concert they played to a full house of ticket holding patrons in the Middleton Performing Arts Center. I am confident that within a few years, this orchestra will become an established part of the Madison area music community, which already includes two other professional symphonices, a civic opera company, many community bands and the University of Wisconsin School of Music performing organizations. I know we are really concerned with the demise of national professional orchestras, but here in my home town, we are experiancing the "birth" of a new orchestral baby. I think that qualifies as good news......
btw--I received a special bow for my bass clarinetting in the Nutcracker Suite. LOL--how often does THAT happen..........
It may also be of interest for us on the BB that this orchestra was started by two clarinet players who wanted a group to play with. They enlisted the help of the Middleton High School orchestra director and some other fellow musicians, and a symphony was born.
