HI,
I need help trying to find a piece with a piano accompaniment. I'm in the 11th grade and last year I performed five bagatelles. Im leaning toward stanford but I'm not sure what I want to do.
Any suggestions?

Paul:
Where do you live? Most states publish a required list from which all solos and ensembles must be selected for competition leading to the state level contests. I would suggest that you and your teacher obtain a copy of this and make your selection accordingly.
In Texas it is the University Interscholastic League. They publish a list of solos, ensembles, etc., for all instruments both orchestral, band, vocal, piano, etc. They are graded from very easy (6th to 8th grade in school) to VERY hard (Seniors, etc.). It is the responsibility of both the student and the teacher to check their solos, etc., against the list to avoid being disqualified from playing. Having your teacher help you with your state's list and making your choice from that is my best answer. If you obtain a variety of selections from the list I would suggest buying (or borrowing) a couple of them and trying them out and see which one you like best, then go for it! Don't forget that most contests have a deadline for entry.
Best of luck in your choice,
Bob Curtis

I'm a junior this year. Last year I played the Mozart Concerto for Clarinet. This year, I was going to play Mozart's Clarinet Quintet (it's easier than the Concerto), but I decided not to. I am playing Weber's Concerto No. 1. I've heard good things about both of Mozart's pieces and Weber's Concertos 1 and 2 and his Concertino. Oh yes, Mozart's concerto is the longest piece on Wisconsin's list, but you might have others. It's like 6 pages and all the others are 2.5 to 3.

Thank you Bob and Amanda. Im from Massachusetts. This past fall I played Weber's Concerto No. 1 It was pretty good. I loved playing it. And Mozarts Concerto for Clarinet I played about 2 years ago. That was a very great challenge for me at the time. I'm not looking to compete just for my friends, family and BU scouts to take a listen.
thanks for your help.
