 Leblanc Ambiance
Author: Ken Shaw

The Leblanc site lists 3 top of the line models: The Opus, the Symphonie VII (an Opus in rosewood) and the Ambiance, which has the same specs and look as the Opus.

Does anyone play an Ambiance? Has anyone tried one? If so, what do you think? How is it different from the Opus. What's the price?

FWIW -- Last summer neither WW & BW nor my local music stores could get me one of the Ambiance clarinets to try. I got the impression from one dealer that a trip to Kenosha WI was my best option to try one out. The printed Leblanc 1999 catalog (# r-11-99) feature comparison chart shows the bore to be a reversed cone, and the mechanism to be 17/6 with offset trill keys. I had thought that that bore shape was a characteristic of Selmer clarinets only and was interested in the alternative because the Leblanc keywork lays well in my hands. Note that the Ambiance and the LL model don't have links on the new HTML version of Leblanc's online catalog.
