I'm have an old Boosey & Hawkes clarinet (series 2-20, serial number 239981) that is part of an estate I am administering. I'm considering giving it to a student music program. Any idea of the value of this old wooden instrument? Many thanks for the advice.

Equivalent model being produced tday is the Buffet E11 or Yamaha YCL-450 (ie. entry level wooden instrument), though as to the actual value as it stands is difficult as it depends on the overall condition.
The B&H Edgware is the same instrument - best thing to do is search completed listings on eBay for B&H Edgware to see how much they fetched, though for replacement/insurance purposes it will be the same value as the Buffet or Yamaha.

Unfortunately it's not very valuable despite being a decent instrument. You can get an idea by doing a search on some of the online auction sites, particularly search 'completed listings'. Depressingly many B&H clarinets go unsold. Student music programs are not too likely to want it since it's not one of the currently fashionable brands/models.

As written above, it's actually quite a decent clarinet but has very little market value --- say, $50 in heavily-used condition, to a maximum of maybe $250 if in like-new condition.

While the 2-20 is basically the same as an Edgware, it does have those two keys (left pinky and right finger trill keys) modified by Reginald Kell that are really kind of nice, and makes it worth a little more than an Edgware. A nice intermediate level clarinet, but $100 value tops. Too much supply, not enough demand, at present.
