I heard a tenor aria on the radio but only managed to catch the composer's name(Verdi). It starts with a very long clarinet solo and ends with the clarinet as well. Any help in locating this piece?

The solo you're seeking is in the Carl Fischer Publication O4862/N5267 "Recital Clarinetist" selected and edited by Ben Armato. It is from scene 1, Act Three of Verdi's "La Forza del Destino" and was dedicated by the composer to Ernesto Cavallini.
The clarinet solo begins the Don Alvaro Tenor Aria "O tu che inseno agl"angeli" (O Thou who dwells amongst the angels).
There is another publication of the same excerpt, but my faulry filing system has caused it to disappear at the moment. All the best, ET

Sophie: I found the other edition of the Verdi solo you asked about on Sneezy. It is contained in Universal Edition UE 12961 "essential Repertoire For Clarinet" entitled "Romanza", pg.21.
The piano accompaniment is slightly less involved than the other edition I wrote about. Both publications are quite worthwhile. The Universal edition contains quite a few piano accompaniments to various clarinet excerpts and is great for orchestral clarinet excerpt study. I'd have to recommend it highly for that reason.

The solo is also contained in the Richard Stoltzman arranged Aria book, containing
pieces from his CD of the same name. It also has piano accompaniment and can be purchased through Sheetmusicplus.com

The solo (just clarinet, no accompaniment) is also in Hite's Artistic Studies, Book 3, from the Italian School.

Another beautiful clarinet accompanyment to a tenor aria is Puccini's " E Lucevan le Stelle", available in Giampieri, vol 1.
