Hello,
My Buffet with an E13 650mm barrel and Vandoren B45 mouthpiece plays sharp in my musical group. I need to pull it out a long way to get in tune.
Would it be OK to use a longer R13 barrel or would that create other problems?

Every barrel is slightly --or greatly-- different. The only way, in my experience, to pick a barrel is to try it out.
A custom barrel maker may have other methods of adapting a barrel's bore to your playing and instrument, but I have yet to try that.
Go ahead and borrow an R13 barrel and try it out.
Because those whom I pay to listen to me like its sound, I use an R16-1/2 A442 barrel on my Buffet RC and pull it out a couple of mm to tune to A440. I also have to pull out at the center joint about 1-1/2 mm to bring the right hand clarion closer to being in tune --as they tend to be sharp.

An R13 barrel will work just fine on your E13 clarinet. I have my students who play E11 clarinets replace the OEM barrel with an R13 barrel -- either 66 or 66.5mm. The longer barrel actually improves the internal intonation of the instrument, and usually helps the tone quality, too! You might want to experiment with a Moennig barrel as well -- of the longer length.

The 65mm barrel is far too short - you're much better off with a 66, 66.5 or 67mm barrel.
Likewise with B12s and E11s - the older ones had a longer barrel than the current ones.

I agree with Larry. See if you can try several 66s and 67s to find the one that works best on your clarinet. Everyone plays slightly different so it's always a good idea to try a few at least. If you lived near me I'd let you try several I have in stock but it's a long way to Baltimore MD, USA. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

Thanks Bob,
I will try to get hold of the Buffet in the first instance and try out some other fancier barrels later on. I am keen to get the tuning fixed first.

Thanks Larry,
It is reassuring to know that the R13 will work. Ironically I have a Buffet short barrel from my school days. I will try to get hold of the Buffet.

Thanks Chris,
I agree. What puzzles me is why they are supplied with the 65mm barrels. Al the Buffet clarinets in my group seem to have the same problem.

Eddie,
I would be pleased to take up your offer, but as you guessed I am half a world away.
