 When the unthinkable happens...

Over the break, a fire broke out near the band hall. I don't know all the details, but we had a table in the band hall, and it caught on fire, sending smoke all through the band room and band lockers! Fortunately, I always bring my instruments home for a long break. Unfortunately, many others don't.

Now some kids are now forced to face the consequences of being careless. It wouldn't be so bad, but most of them didn't even think to put the instrument back in the case. What a shame.

I went to the music store after school and helped out with some of the less major projects while the real techs did the other stuff. I've been working with them, and training for awhile, so they where glad to have me teach someone how to tune a violin, or replace a cork while they started some major work. I feel better knowing that I helped do my part, but somehow I wish I could do more.

This wasn't supposed to happen. The band was making so much progress to be set so far back. It's unbelievable. I'm not asking for anyone to do anything, I just want to tell everyone that this type of horrible thing can happen anywhere.

Everybody's nightmare. I;m sorry this happened to your band, though it's good to hear you took your instruments home. Looks like practicing at home paid off more than usual.

What a neat thing to do, Kontragirl. Not only are you able to pitch in, you're able to lead others to pitch in too. Better to get busy than sit around sulking about it. I'm sure the techs are glad for your help. Thanks for an important reminder - it *doesn't* always happen 'to the other guy'. Your outlook is an inspiration to all of us; thank you for sharing it.
