I am searching for a Henri Farny A clarinet to purchase. Must be low pitch and simple/albert/oehler system as he also made Boehms (yuck) for a while just before the war. A C with the same specs would also be of interest. I have seen some old e mails about these in the database so their must be some around. As long as the istrument is restorable I am interested.

Keep an eye out on eBay. They're pretty common, though not necessarily in A. Farney seems to have been in business from about 1900-1930 and was imported by the Wurlitzer company of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Was Henri Farny a person, a firm or simply a trade name? Somewhere I got the impression
that this was an export name meaning that it was a brand attached to french clarinets for export to the U.S. Thus, different manufacturers might have made different batches of instruments. In other words, one Henri Farny might have been made by Selmer and had outstanding playing characteristics and the next one might have been made by some fly by night jobber and be low end student quality.
For what it is worth, I restored a Henri Farny metal boehm that played fairly well. I guess I would rate it to be a good student quality instrument. Swapped it to a fellow in Switzerland who liked it a lot.
