I am interested in Attending Interlochen Arts Academy, is there any place that I can obtain a recording of the Band/ORchestra there or better yet a CD of Hawkins over the internet? THis would help me out alot in my decision, thanks alot!

IAA has recordings available in the "Scholarshop"; call the switchboard and ask to be connected. They may be on Christmas break right now, though.

BennyG -
I absolutely loved Interlochen when I was there (quite a few years ago). It's rigid, but if you accommodate to it (and don't smoke, which they're really strict about), there's no place better.
Mark Charette's son graduated from the IAA recently and may be available to fill you in on the latest.
Best regards.

fwiw, the Interlochen Summer recordings were just released. While this was not exactly what was being looked for here, I thought someone might have an interest, although at $29.00 with shipping that is a little steep for a CD. In any event. the ScholarShop manager is the person to talk to about recent/older recordings. I have seen the earlier year recordings in the ScholarShop and they *WERE* cheaper than the present summer recordings. mw

mw - 8^)
The current year's CDs are always way overpriced, since I'd guess 99% are bought by the families of the summer students.

Yes, the problem is that you can't buy them! I could really complain if it was the other way around. They burn only as many as they need. That is what they tell me anyway. I need the 1999 Summer CD as we didn't get a copy! The book store manager swore an oath that I couldn't buy the CD! mw

I go to the Academy now and I gotta tell you it's even hard to come by recordings here! They are next to impossible to get from the "outside". Believe me, when I was applying here I was very eager to hear the groups too, but it's really hard to get your hands on a recording. Take my word for it: Hawkins is awesome! : )
