I own a Buffet clarinet that I purchased nearly 25 years ago and which has sat dormant for most of the last 20 years. It must be completely refurbished.
Does anyone know if the manufacturer still exists? Will the manufacturer or the company who acquired the manufacturer service this instrument? How do I contact the manufacturer?
Can anyone reccomend an instrument repairman in the Houston, TX area that could be trusted to properly repair the instrument?

The Buffet company most certainly still exists and is one of the most popular brands. 25 years old is still rather new for a clarinet.
Most any competant repair person can put your clarinet right again; John Butler, one of the sponsors of Sneezy.Org, does live near you in Sugarland.

Sure, Joel. A 25 yr old Buffet is still a great horn and Buffet is still one of the premier manufacturers. You don't go back to them for service however. Since you are in Houston, my recommendation is to start with John Butler Instrument Restoration in the Houston area. Go to the top right hand corner of this page where it says Sponsors and click GO. John's company will come up as a sponsor and you can get the needed info there. He is very reasonable and has a reputation for extraordinary quality. There are other restorers listed there as well, but having the advantage of working directly with the restorer is a tremendous benefit.

John Butler's work is nothing short of amazing. I just got a clarinet back from him a couple of months ago and the repair/restoration work he did was not only beyond my expectations, but beyond what I thought was possible for the 70 year old worn out horn I sent him. His prices are very good as well. I know we shouldn't exactly plug anything here, but he is a sponsor and I can't resist the urge to relate what a terrific craftsman he is.
