I've been a musician for more than thirty years, including piano, flute, guitar, mandolin, bass, banjo, and assorted percussion. A few years ago, I bought an Evette Buffet in excellent condition for about twenty dollars. Now I'd finally like to learn how to play this marvelous instrument.
Can anyone recommend a good teacher in the Washington, D.C. area, preferably in Maryland? As someone with a good bit of flute training (plus plenty of music theory) already under my belt, I would like to find someone who can teach at a fairly high level. Preferably jazz and klezmer, but I'll need to start with the basics.
Any recommendations gratefully received.
Thanks... and a happy new year to all.

Hey David, why don't you try calling the music department of the University of Maryland? I bet they can get you onto a good teacher. I know of a place in Kensington that gives lessons, primarily to school-age kids.
Finally, if you live in Montgomery County, please consider joining the Olney Community Band. We meet on Wednesday nights. E-mail me for details.

You could see if you can get in touch with Steve Barta, principal clarinet of the Baltimore Philharmonic and professor of clarinet at Peabody Conservatory or maybe even Loren Kitt, principal clarinet of the National Philharmonic and i think he also teaches at Peabody... but i'm not positive

You might also call the American Federation of Musicians local in DC and see if they have a list of instructors.
