 Ridenour clarinets

Hi all,

Evidently, Musician's Friend is no longer selling Tom's clarinets, so now, I imagine you'd have to go right to Tom himself. That is how I bought my clarinet and I found the service to be super!

Personally, if I'm buying a Tom Ridenour product, I'd rather buy from Tom Ridenour anyway. I mean, then you can speak to the maker and have a history with him in case you need to send it back for some reason, or it gets damaged in the mail, etc. etc.

Tom Ridenour is one of the 'good guys' in our world of clarinet. A master accoustician, a reputable dealer and one that will do everything to make you a satisfied customer.

He has taken good care of me, too, both with getting me a nice clarinet, and with service after the sale. Definitely one of the good guys!

I have his Basset A and his only BBb contra and love them both. Purchased directly from him both times and he was a delight to talk with and to work with.

How's the Contra, Bobby?

I absolutely love the contra, it is straight but he designed it to be a 5 piece and the make it a great transporter even for a contra. I have had no problems what so ever, and get complements all the time on the tone. I really hope he does get them in production.

I'm still waiting for an Effer to be released - unless it is in the works. I'm surprised that the Contra clarinet has been designed before the Eb...just on a cost/demand basis. I know more than a few players who would jump at the chance to purchase a cost friendly Eb.

I think I remember reading that he hasn't been happy with the quality of some prototypes of eb's that he's received or something like that. My guess is that because of the small size, it is harder to get a good clarinet with good intonation. Which would mean he really does care about the consumer enough not to put out a product that isn't up to his high standards!

When I asked Tom about Eefers, he told me that the company who manufactures the Lyriques already makes one, which is way below his standards, and they were unwilling to meet his specifications. He therefore was not offering Eefers at this time. That was about a year or so ago. I can't vouch for the current state of development of a possible Eb soprano Lyrique.

I agree about it being odd that there is no Effer but his dedication to quality makes me glad he is not just putting one out. with the fact that he but out the C and the Basset A and the Contra prototype that I have I kinda am hoping for the Basset in F?

"kinda am hoping for the Basset in F? "

That would be the last instrument that Tom would offer. Too great an investment of development vs return in sales.

I think a lot of people (like us) would love an affordable basset horn.

I don't disagree that I would like an affordable basset horn, I'm simply suggesting that it would be towards the end on the list of instruments that Tom would probably expand into.

I did not speak with Tom before making my suggestion, and I could be wrong.

That is why it is called "Hoping" and not going to.
