How do I get sheet music of a CD?
Author: sfalexi

Specifically, "ARIA" with Richard Stoltzman. All I really want is the music for the Gypsy song so i can try to turn it into a clarinet quartet piece. I think it'd be a crowdpleaser.

Carl Fischer has published a book with all the music from the Stoltzman Aria CD in arrangements for clarinet and piano. It is widely available from sheet music sellers, e.g., Gary Van Cott has it.

The collection that Jack mentions is a very fun book to have, but it does not include ALL the selections from the "Aria" CD, and specifically, does not include the one that Alexi is seeking.

I think I have to disagree, Susan. There are 18 tracks on the CD and 18 pieces listed in the table of contents to he Fischer publication, including "Gypsy Dance" (Chanson Boheme).

Alexi,

As you probably know, this piece is from Bizet's Carmen. It is the last movement in his Second Suite from the opera. You might find the score (available for free on IMSLP) easier to work with in making your transcription than Stoltzman's arrangement for clarinet and piano.

Best regards,
jnk

Just be careful with the copyright/performance right issue.

David,

Bizet is public domain. As long as Alexi is making an arrangement of the Chanson Boheme and, certainly if he bases it on the original score, there shouldn't be an issue, should there?

Best regards,

Missed the composers name - figured it was more recent.

The Aria clarinet part is painful to use.
It is full of awkward pager turns.

Plan to copy almost the whole thing to make playing it practical.

I'm disappointed in Stoltzman in that he didn't exercise care in its production.

(and there's not much to the Summertime arrangement)
