Hi everyone.
I'm visiting Washington DC November 5, and am looking for a place to try a few clarinets out. Is there anywhere in DC (available by public transportation...we're hoping to leave the car parked) to try out instruments? I'm also looking into flutes as well. Thanks!

Ron,
Most people go to Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center in Wheaton, Maryland. You could take the Metrorail (subway) to the Wheaton rail station and then walk to the store.

I second Washington Music Center in Wheaton. They usually have a large selection. I don't know Levines, so you might want to research that as well.

I think there is some confusion here, I believe Mr. Blumberg is also referring to Chuck Levin's (not "Levines") Washington Music Center. There is a Levine School of Music in town but I don't believe they sell anything there.

If you're in Northern Virginia close to Washington, DC, check out Foxes Music (416 S. Washington Street, Falls Church, ph. 703-533-7393) for new instruments and Presto Brass & Woodwinds for used instruments (22198 N. Columbus St., Suite #303, Arlington, ph. 703-841-8335). Both places sell supplies and parts. Peter Ferrante at Presto (a one-man store) plays clarinet and sax professionally. He's a first-rate repairman if you need one. (He does the repair work for Foxes.) Foxes also sells a pretty good basic selection of sheet music and has knowledgable employees. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with either store, except as a satisfied customer for a number of years.
