 Backun MOBA barrel

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the bore on the Backun MOBA barrels? Is is a reverse taper similar to a Moennig or Chadash? Or, is it cylindrical.
Thanks.

Why not check with Morrie, himself? He is happy to discuss his products with prospective buyers.

As a user, I can tell you that the bore is cylindrical. The shape is designed with the thickness and the rings to get a whole and rich sound. The extra wood can account for a lot of power and a great tone and response.
I agree with Jeff, though. Check with Morrie, he'll tell you everything you need to know.

Thanks...that's what I thought. Wish they would do a reverse taper bore...

For a reverse style taper there are many options. Clark Fobes makes excellent barrels. Allan Segal makes beautiful custom barrels of any type you want.

Hi folks,

Just for clarity, Backun Musical makes several models with reverse taper bores. Please feel free to contact me by Email if you need further information.

BTW, LOVE the disclosure by Morrie Backun with a signature of Backun Musical Services stating, "We make and sell the Backun barrels")

Anyways, I would have been VERY surprised if Backun did NOT have reverse taper barrels. They are designing clarinets now and so I'm sure they have the tooling to do that. Good luck, and enjoy trying out those backun barrels. Budget willing, I'll be trying out the stock of barrels at Mid-West conference.

I would think that the taper of the barrel would depend highly on the design of the bore of the clarinet, and whether a tapered barrel would make acoustical sense. The reverse taper (according to Tom Ridenour) was originally brought about to cure issues encountered when American clarinetists started playing large bore mouthpieces the narrower-bored R13.

Since Morrie makes different barrels for different brands of clarinets, I am sure they are designed with the acoustics of the brand of clarinet(and model) in mind. My Backun Symphonie tunes and sounds wonderful with its grenadilla barrel.
