I am looking for an Eb soprano clarinet for a friend of mine. They seem to be very rare animals. Does anyone know where to look for one and what not to buy? My friend would prefer a wooden one. I can rebuild one if I can find one. He bid on a Pedler but I am not sure what the quality is of that manufacture. I do know it was old. He did not win the auction but I am going to keep looking.

So what is the deal with Amati Clarinets? They seem to be the cheapest wood clarinets out there. Has anyone ever played one of these? What did you think of it.

I did have a Bundi Eb Sopranino once and found it quite playable in the lower range , but never did come to terms with the high register. More of a musical weapon than a musical instrument when I played it in that range. It was interesting though that the Eb Sopranino's bottom bell note is the same as the lowest note (G string) of the violin.

I haven't tried their eefer, but their other models are not all bad, especially the post-commie era specimen. You get comparably much for what you're paying - expect some minor finishing and tweaking issues, but their intonation and tone is quite good.

Try Weinstein Woodwinds in Oklahoma City. Mark often has some fantastic used instruments as well as a good selection of new.
