Bb Clarinet Markis - made in France

I bought this clarinet in the mid 70'ties for £40 and it just had a total renovation for £350. It has a terrific sound and is easy to play.
Why can't I find any clarinet with the same name on the internet?
Can you tell me a little about it - when it might have been manufactured, is the factory closed and when, and what is it worth today.
I was told by the guy who renovated it that I would have to give at least £1100 to buy a clarinet of the same quality. Do you agree?

I have no other information but what's on the clarinet and it says Markis Made in France. It was an old clarinet when I bought it from a drunk jazz-musician so I don't know when it's made.

Well...given that fact that it's a more or less unknown brand, then the market value is close to zero, even if it plays just as good as a $1200 instrument. People rather sink $1000 in a wrecked "brand name" instrument than spend $100 on an off-brand gem that might be just as good.

Chances are that yours is a stencil instrument - manufactured by e.g. Malerne or Martin Frères and sold by some music store. Or it might indeed have been a micro factory in the middle of nowhere where two employees hand-rolled seventeen clarinets per month.

Your best bet would be to post some pictures with keywork closeups and the like, then maybe someone in here is able to trace down the lineage of your instrument.

Thanks - I'll try that and get back with some photos.
