Does anyone know the difference in the Buffet black wood (e.g. limite') compared to grenadilla?

Enjoy

If it's wood, then it's exactly the same thing (being grenadilla).

Two names for the same thing. You can add M'pingo to the list, too.

So then,

What is the difference between the R13 and the limite?

It looks, from the website descri[tion, that Buffet altered the bore of the Limite to make for a freer blowing instrument. I would hazard this instrument is not quite at the level ofg the R13, and is intended for "proogressing" musicians and students, wheres the R13 is aimed at the professional.

I posted this in another discussion, but you might find it helpful (in addition to the previous message).

A few years ago, I had a nice chat with a Buffet rep. I asked him what really distinguished an R-13 from an E-13 or some of Buffet's slightly less expensive models. He couldn't give me an answer. As others have pointed out, I think much of the difference is in the quality of the wood. As GBK points out, Buffet admits that "their more expensive models use their more desirable billets of wood." I wonder if there is a difference between the wood in today's R-13s and the wood in older Evettes and E-13s.

Thanks Chris and Jeff

A recent acquaintance seeking to move up from a student model had me pondering these things about mu own R13's value. The bottom line is the value lies in that I love it.
