Yup. Literally. For the past week or so, when I go to sleep, I end up playing some sort of clarinet in my dreams. lol.
And apparantly last night, as I was falling asleep, my wife could hear me "practicing" clarinet (tonguing the air in definite rhythms).
Just thought it was pretty funny when she asked me this morning, "Did you decide to practice clarinet rhythms or something last night when you were falling asleep?" And then I found out, apparantly I had!

Talk about weird dreams...
I just had one that some major clarinetist that I have never heard of was recording the Neilson on the Letterman Show.

Alexi, although you are much, much further along than I in your playing abilities, I seem to eat, sleep, and dream of the clarinet and playing, so yes, I do understand fully.
I just wish I'd started playing many years ago instead of just over two.

I've never dreamed about me playing (god forbid how bad that'd sound coming from me) a clarinet, but yes... I've dreamed about missing the delivery man that's dropping off my horn.
Here's to Alexi.

LOL--my recurring dream is that I'm on the way to this important gig--like subbing in with the CSO for JBY--and, halfway there, I discover I brought my saxophone instead of my clarinet set, or have simply forgotten my clarinet. And there is no time to go home and get it.....PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!
Or I'm playing this jazz gig and I improvise the most remarkable melody that has ever been heard......and wake up, but can't remember how it goes.

I've had that one MANY times!
@CarlT. We haven't heard each other play so don't sell yourself short (or sell me long either!)

I REALLY hate this one! When I was doing more composing, I've had great, extended movements of larger works that I've composed in my dream, only to wake up and not be able to remember anything other than the one measure! I think of all those dreams I've had like that, I've only been able to record one of them down!

Ask your wife to record you when you are singing something cool like Beethovens 9th. Are you singing in the choir or playing in the orchestra? :}

She already asked me where we can get a digital recorder. Sigh. It would be a neat little 30 second youtube post.

"you guys are crazy ^_^"
Most musicians are crazy! We dream in techna-color and in 3D. So you have to wear 3D glasses when you sleep!
I had a nightmare one time. My horns were on fire and the mouthpiece slowly melted into a trumpet mouthpiece. See, we are all nuts!

I've not dreamed about playing clarinet AFAIK but I did have a dream about Nastassja Kinski and a bass clarinet.
Best regards,

I'm sure that in the field of psychiatry there are names for the syndrome(s) you are suffering from, with appropriate treatments.......

There was a period a couple of years ago when I was fingering scales and arpeggios in my dreams. I believe it helped!

I have this one a lot! Either I'm really late, I'm missing part of my equipment, whether it be music, reeds or usually just part of the instrument. Or I'm wearing a bright pink dress while everyone else is in concert black. Always unprepared in some fashion. PANIC is right!
