Reeds Forming to Mouthpiece

I seem to be feeling this, but I wanted to make sure. Currently, I've been between 2 mouthpieces due to different styles of music.

After various experimentations, reeds that were broken in on a different mouthpiece than the one I'd be playing just feel tubby. It makes me wonder if testing a new mouthpiece to buy will really show its true potential... I sanded the bottom of the reed(s), and it only shows a small improvement before it goes back. I also did some refacing work on another and this occurs as well. I'm on Vandy Blue Box 4s. Do reeds form to the mouthpieces body after break-in, and is there a way to change this?

My fresh reeds are marvelous.

Find separate reeds for each mouthpiece. Since the mouthpieces are different they will require different reeds.

I second Arnold Stang. Lately I've made another change to the mouthpiece repertoire and find that the reeds used regularly on one facing have probably "bent" to that facing. Trying to get them to work WELL on the second mouthpiece was all but futile. Breaking in a new box of reeds solved the problem.
