Can anybody share any links to info about models/systems used in Eastern Europe?
I'm British but have lived in Bulgaria for 6 years. I am ashamed to say I know nothing about the type of instruements played out here and don't know any players to ask.
I came across a clarinet in a junk shop - looked like a Bb to me, had 5 keys for the right hand little finger and a VERY short looking barrel (1.5 inches?). Didn't see any markings on it, but I put it down again very quickly when the shop owner named the price as 500 euros. It was obviously very far from playable condition with split pads, dirty clogged up holes and tenons and looked like it hadn't been played for many years - but would that warrant an "antique" price tag?
Just wondering if there any websites with pictures where I could probably spot the instrument if I saw it again. I would love to take that baby home and see how it plays, but at 500 euros I had to walk away.

Bulgarian folk clarinetists typically play Full Boehm instruments. They usually have really short barrels because their sound is meant to be much rougher than a classical timbre, and is usually accomplished with a much lower tongue position which can flatten the pitch a lot.
I purchased a Full Boehm Selmer about 10 years ago from WWBW here in the US for about $800 USD, so 500 euro sounds about right here, although mine had been overhauled.
Look for Ivo Papazov's music and website and you'll probably find a picture of the FB Selmer he plays. He's the king of Bulgarian clarinet!

One thing this clarinet definitely didn't have, however, is a ring over the third hole left hand. That's the first thing I look for when I see clarinettists play over here, as I assume that the ring in that position means a full Boehm. I also noticed (I think the left hand little finger) had a kind of square style double key. I am really stumped about this instrument!

Full Boehm is all the extra keywork (LH forked Eb/Bb mechanism, articulated C#/G# and LH Ab/Eb lever) plus the low Eb which makes 20 keys, 7 rings.
I've got several 19/7 clarinets (everything except the low Eb) as well, though these aren't full Boehms as they lack the low Eb.
Plonk, try and get a photo of it if you can.
