 Buffet C-13 serial #K66739
Author: bwilber

Hi Everyone. I was wondering if anyone can help me to figure out just what I have here. I have a Buffet C -13 serial #K66739. It says C 13 underneath the Buffet logos and under Made in France. It looks an awful lot like an older R-13 but there aren't any cut-outs underneath the crow's foot. It says Buffet Crampon and made in France underneath all the logos just like the R-13. Also, near the serial numbers, it says made in France. This looks in every respect like an R-13 except for not having the cut-outs under the crow's foot.

Thank you for any help.

Bonnie, I saw another one just like yours on ebay recently, I was surprised to see that it was stamped C13 on the upper joint because it looks exactly like an E13 to me.

Actually I think the one I saw is the same one you have, the seller must have relisted it. Item #220657195662 (are we allowed to post item numbers of completed listings???)

Hi Sue. Yes that is the same one but it must have been returned and resold and I got it cheaper. I have found info about C12's on older posts on the ClarinetBbboard and it is said to be a professional clarinet but it had higher posts and that is why they didn't need the cut-outs in the wood. I would think if the C12 was a professional, wouldn't the C-13 also be a professional but maybe a higher quality? Anyone can tell me what I have here? I would sure appreciate any information anyone has. Thanks.

Is this the International or a Conservatory model? I believe the International goes by C-13. If so they were made in Germany, so the made in France seems somewhat suspicious.

The seller probably did not even know what it was; they are mostly a guitar and percussion bunch of guys (I have done business with them in the past).
My guess is that because it was marked C13 they assumed it was an International.

I really think it is an E13 because of the K prefixed serial number. If you enter the number 66739 on the Buffet website it comes up as a model 1102 made in 1985...the 1102 is the E13.

I have no idea why it is stamped C13!

I know it isn't the conservatory model for sure.

I meant it isn't the C-13 International model, which is really an E-11.

I remember seeing that model as well, but when I looked up the serial number, it didn't exist for a C-13. I got suspicious, and passed it by.

Buffet "K"- series clarinets are semiprofessional instruments. Judging by the logo and keywork this instrument is either C12 or E13.

The C13 marking makes no sense. Buffet C13 "International" is German made instrument.
