I'm looking to buy a new ligature for my clarinet. The one that I’m currently using is the one that came with my horn (Yamaha 450). So I want to buy a new lig that will hopefully make my sound better and improve the response. Any suggestion??
P.S. I hate ligatures that bite the reed.

It depends on what kind of mouthpiece do you use and what kind of sound you want to make. Machine finished and mass produced mouthpieces usually have a concave table, so ligatures really has some infuence on the sound. This is not the case with flat-tabled mouthpieces. Leather ligatures can make your sound covered and darker while with metal ligs the sound can be more focused and bright. I have good experience with Rovner Versa and the leather Vandoren.

There will be a lot of responses along the lines of "you have to use what works for you" .....
So....I'll just go ahead and list a few that you should try that generally facilitate response and vibration.
1) Bonade Inverted (Nickel, Silver, or gold plated)
2) Vandoren Masters
3) Bay Silver inverted "Gothic" ligature
4) Rico "H" ligature (Gold)
Non-metal ligatures that fit the bill of "responsive" are
1) Vandoren Klassik (String ligature that you don't have to tie every time)
2) BG Super Revelation
If you want response, I wouldn't recommend using a ligature that has lots of material (or screws, for that matter) resting on the reed. Inverted ligatures and ligatures with generally less material resting on the reed allow the reed to vibrate more freely.

For response, I tend to use anything that has metal "rails". I personally don't like the bonades, but the BG works, and Rovner eddie daniels ligature (has metal plates). The vandoren optimum with the plate with rails is what I'm using right now. Those rails work well and for me, from what I personally think, metal with rails = more responsive. Fabric, less responsive. Peter Spriggs would work, Francois Louis lig, that sorta thing.

Every one has their own opinion of Ligatures, as they do for everything else. What's best for someone else may or my not be good for you. The only way to know what's best for you is to try several. I love the Rovners, he makes several models, one might be the best for you. Try as many as you can get your little paws on to see what's best for you, not for me. ESP http://eddiesclarinet.com

I've been ordering most of my clarinet stuff from Washington Music Center and Musicians Friends. Ask the salesmen if you can order different types, pay for them, and return the ones you don't want for a refund. This will let you try about 10 different types. I've been dealing with Washington Music Center since the 70's. The people are pretty cool.

I prefer the Peter Spriggs ligature. It plays exactly how I want it to, but that of course if just my personal opinion and preference.
It is not a very cost friendly ligature though (I believe they are somewhere around $90). Also they can be hassle in doubling situations but other than that it is a fantastic ligature.
