There is a clarinet solo selection in which the clarinetist plays about 8 measures using the whole instrument, then takes off the bell and plays another 8 measures, removes the lower section, plays another 8 measures, and so on until he is left with only the mouthpiece to play. Do you know the name of this selection, composer, arranger, etc???

I don't know of any pieces where the sections are only 8 bars. The two works that I'm aware of that work this way are: (1) Immer Kleiner by Adolph Schreiner and (2) The Incredible Shrinking Clarinet by Stephen Lawrence. By far, the Lawrence work is simpler and easier than the Schreiner. AFAIK, the Lawrence work only comes with piano accompaniment. The Schreiner can also be played with band and, perhaps, orchestra.

Thank you for the information!
I ordered the "Immer Kleiner" selection. Am looking forward to having our concert band play it!
I only used the 8 measures in my description as that was how it was described to me... I have never heard it or seen it played.
This should be such fun for our concert band to play/perform it!

I've performed Immer Kleiner with a local community band, and have a recording of it that I'll give you if you contact me offline. (It's awful, and I'd rather not broadcast it.)
As Jack said, it is not an easy piece to perform, and you're going to have to do considerable exploration for alternate fingerings and other ways to get near proper pitches for some of the sections.
Also, like most "humorous" pieces, if you don't have a bit of the theatrical bug, and are willing and able to do some sort of shtick during the piece, the audience will sit there like a bump on a log.

My daughter performed Immer Kleiner at her very last high school band concert. It went oververy well. It is a fun piece.
