Does anyone know if there is a transcription of the Mozart Trio, K.498, for piano, clarinet and cello? The piece is written for piano, clarinet and viola, but I don't know any violists. I'm rehearsing with a cellist that would be willing to try it if there is a transcription.

Can't you or the cellist transcribe it? Or download the shareware program Noteworthy Composer and type it in and transpose it. Noteworthy has the alto clef used by the viola so you should be able to type it in and then automatically change it to the clef needed by cello (bass clef I believe). If any of it lays too high, then just bring those portions down an octave. Again the program can do the transpositions automatically.

To save you a lot of typing, you could try downloading the trio from Oliver Seeley's offerings on this site and cutting and pasting into Noteworthy. Then transpose the alto line and reprint.

As confirmation of beejay's suggestion:
Indeed, you could. I have done exactly that, with complete success. Be aware that the MIDI to Noteworthy translation removes all of the dynamics and slurs, so these will have to be added back, which is not too hard a job.
