Wonder if they're treated with arsenic or some other toxic chemical banned in the EEC?

There mpc quality i heard is very inconsistent. I heard after some work on it, the mpc become pretty good. I am just wondering if anyone ever tried it. As of right now, I have only installed leather pads and skin pads on my clarinets. I was just was wondering if it is possible that these cheap pads can actually perform. Have anyone actually tried the pads?

I've tried both the synthetic and their tan leather pads. The sythetics are a medium density white closed cell foam with a thin solid surface layer, thin card backing. The foam is probably something like 'polyurethane' or 'urethane', but I'm not sure. I've got some Dr. Scholl's shoe liners that look like the same stuff. After a year, they're still sealing fine, on a metal clarinet (with their 'tubelike' toneholes that are a good test of synthetic pads), long term who knows. The 'always closed' pads are indented about .010", or 25%. Have'nt noticed any sticking, and they're quiet. Sorry I can't compare them to Valentino's, because I have'nt used them yet. The tan leather pads are a little cheaper than Ferree's, and look pretty much the same. I've had them on a couple clarinets for 2 yrs., they seem fine so far, but long term ?? , I'll have to report back later!

If you go with their cheap shipping, it'll take 4-6 weeks. Online ordering from their website works fine, but don't plan on good (if any)e-mail communications about the order. I think Ferree's is easier to work with, their products have stood the test of time, and shipping is faster. If cost is all-important, the Zheng Hao's may be worth a try. Also, Ferree's likes you to order in 'dozen' pad lots, or fairly expensive 'sets'. Zheng Hao lets you order 1,2,6,20, whatever, of each size pad, same price.

Have'nt tried Zheng Hao's skin pads, their website description doesn't even mention wether they're single or double skin. P.S. Their tan leather pads are listed as bassoon pads, if memory serves.

Beware that some cheap leather pads that have a plastic waterproof coating can be very sticky, and the plastic coating can come away from the leather and stick to toneholes which takes some cleaning up.

The worst sax pads I have come across had, instead of leather, a flash, micro-thin, leather-look-, non-lasting, tan coating over a material that could best be described as papier-mâché, about 0.3 mm thick. It tore more easily than a sheet of photocopy paper, and started disintegrating after a few weeks of use.

They were on a Chinese instrument.

Buyer beware!

I've tried their clarinet felt-and-bladder pads. Very firm felt, can't tell about the longevity of the bladder coating. If you compare Pisoni (aka Music Center) and Precision (aka MusicMedic), then they're more near Pisoni in shape and flatness.

But I can have a Pisoni set for about $12 locally while the ZH pads run at ~$9 including shipping, so I see no compelling reason to continue to use them.

I have some of their red-leathered sax pads which I use for replacing the odd one here and there. Can't report any stickiness issues, but I usually wipe them with hand disinfectant (swine flu, anyone?) before I install them, to remove any surface treatment overdose. (I chose the hand disinfectant because it's cheap, contains a certain amount of alcohol and is - I hope so - gentle to the skin, so it shouldn't harm leather all that much.

>> If you compare Pisoni (aka Music Center) and Precision (aka MusicMedic) <<

A small point but, AFAIK Music Medic doesn't own Preision. This factory makes the pads for Music Medic. I have Precision pads that are not from Music Medic. Instead, Music Center used to be called Pisoni but then cahnged the name, but still known as Pisoni in some areas, so they are the same thing. They sell pads themsevles and for many factories and suppliers (like Ferree's, Kraus, etc.).

That's right. I didn't mean to denote ownership but rather what-name-to-google when you want to buy these pads. Sorry for the confusion.
