i recently aquired an older buffet clairnet...there are clearly 2 B's stamped on one of the main pieces just above or below 2 of the finger holes. I have thoroughly searched for any other identifying marks on the clairnet. I am unable to locate any serial number. the instrument is made from wood and is quite old. I know it is at least 50 yrs old because of where it was found and under the circumstances in which it was found. it is in very nice shape but has no case .all of the pieces are in tact and function seems to be good howerver it needs some cleaning....can anyone please tell me where i might find a serial # on this instrument? Any information into this matter would be greatly appreciated....thank you.....Brad

Look at the thread "Manufacture date Buffet E13 ?" that is just a few posts below yours. Some of the responses there have very good serial number information.

thank you Susan...i appreciate the info however this clairnet has NO OTHER markings other than the B's where I described them. Perhaps back then they placed the markings ( ser# ) somewhere else and im still searching/looking but I can find NONE but thank you, i will continue investigating....Brad

If the clarinet has no markings other than two B's near keyholes, how do you know it is a Buffet?
Best regards,

The serial numbers on older Buffets were stamped very lightly. Dampen an old toothbrush and scrub the areas on the back of each joint just above the bottom (or, rarely, just below the top).
I've seen a few clarinets with the Buffet logo but no serial number, but they either predate 1885 or were experimental designs, usually bought at the factory.
A photo would help.
