It melted when it was left sat in direct sunlight.
It's so the clarinet can be held downwards while maintaining the mouthpiece angled high (like the curved crooks on soprano saxes).

I've tried this barrel. Wasn't a bad barrel at all for me in terms of sound. I don't think the shape really changes the inherent sound qualities that much, but is more to make the hand/arm position better for clarinetists.
Personally, I couldn't stand the position, as I generally like the clarinet slightly away from my body. Maybe others will love this position though.

I suppose sax players who double on clarinet may appreciate the positioning.

Wow! I've sure learned a lot this past week about products from Paraschos that I never knew existed. First, there was the wooden ligature. Now, it's the curved barrel. I checked out the company's web site and now I know about wooden saxophone necks, wooden flute headjoints, and wooden bassoon bocals.

Perhaps this curved barrel could be matched up with Brad Behns' bent mouthpiece.
These innovations are so interesting...$395 for the barrel, $750 for the bent mouthpiece, more than $1000 spent and not to the upper joint yet!

I didn't like the position and balance with this barrel but some players might. Here is a photo from their stand at Musikmesse (except the oboes on the right which are from another stand).

What will they think of next? A curved clarinet to match the barrel? A curved mouthpiece so you don't have to worry about the reed being flat? Oh, we can't forget about the curved case to put all of the stuff in!
