Can anyone give any hints to playing in 6/4? I've played concert music in 6/4 before but never marching band music and our entire show this year is in it. any help?

Treat it as 6/8 "alla breve", like (1)23(4)56,(1)23(4)56, i.e. two beats per measure, or as a crude "4/4 with triplet quarters".
Got an example piece?

Is it a quick or slow march?

> Is it a quick or slow march?
Funeral.
The only pieces in 6/4 I've played was some (rather nonmensural) church hymns and Mussorgsky's "Pictures". Haven't seen proper marches in that meter, the non-2/2 or -2/4 were in 6/8, ie always two beats per measure.
Else marching would be rather challenging, wouldn't it?

Before you break any copyright laws and land in the slammer instead of behind your music stand, you might want to just tell us the title(s)...

It's certainly annoying enough to be a marching band piece.
As far as how to count it out for marching steps, I can't say. Might want to check with th e band's director on how s/he wants it to go.
I suppose that annoying computer-generated voice is an integral part of the music, too.

Oops, got caught in the refresh vortex. (or whatever the technical term).
Anyhow, I sense a 2-beat-per-measure pattern...sometimes.
Rather modern, innit?

Ben, are you slipping into euphemisms again?

"again", how "again"?
I'm just trying to be diplomatic.
I say "fancy, inventive" when I look for the barf bag.
I say "solidly uncontroversial" after I've woken up from the Concert Coma (TM)
And I say "modern" when I haven't yet made up my mind whether I find it fancy, inventive or uncontroversial, or, for a change, interesting, inspiring or enjoyable.
When in doubt, I say "I'm not the vibrato kind of person".

So, the verdict seems to be "fancy, inventive" as per Ben.
I hope the band didn't pay a whole lot for the commission. If they did, the booster organization might want to ask for some of the money back.

Of course, to be fair..... EVERYTHING sounds like crap when you do it on a MIDI setup, instead of using real instruments.

You're right, Alex. I wasn't specifically talking about windchimes when I railed against MIDI. I really despise synthesized music that tries to pass it off as sounding like the real instruments. Just doesn't sound right or good to me.

Most 6/4 music is in compound duple meter (like most music in 6/8 time). There are some exceptions, though, like Dave Brubeck's "Pick Up Sticks," which you can hear in the below link (which, despite appearances, is "legit," because the record company [Sony] made a deal with YouTube to get a cut of the ad revenue from otherwise unauthorized uses like this [notice the purchase/download links]):
