 Hinged tape?
Author: bmcgar 2017

As publishers get more and more sloppy about sheet music page layout, sometimes making page turns during performance virtually impossible, I'm increasingly forced to copy pages and attach them to the originals to avoid disaster.

Does know of a source for hinged tape that can be used for this purpose? Or is there some other good alternative?

I've used the usual adhesive tape, but that stuff gets brittle and is a pain to fold, and it's not "archival" at all. I've also used archive-quality artist's tape, but that's even thicker and harder to fold than the the "Scotch" tape.

I've seen scores put together with a clear tape that seems to work, but nobody I've asked knows where to get it.

I'd give worlds to know.

B.

I have some of this tape that you seek. It's librarian tape. Really useful stuff but sadly I don't know who makes it. I picked mine up while I was teaching in school one day. Was attaching pages to a sonata I was practising for a recital and the lady let me keep the roll.

For my sheet music binding I use white artist tape made by ProArt and available in art stores and some craft stores. It is acid free and long lasting. If you are really into binding sheet music, I also use the Tape Binding System made by VPC. It is a simple machine that make binding multiple sheets together a snap.

This is all becoming more of an issue with a lot of sheet music being sold on line as PDF files you print and bind yourself (my business included).

Thanks, Paul.

Looks like it would work well.

Here's something else I came up with, though I haven't tried it yet. (Might be useful for really large sheets. if you don't have the large VPC model.):
