I recently purchased a new Moennig 67 barrel for my Buffet R13 Bb clarinet. However, upon closer inspection at home, the barrel reads "R13 A 670." While trying them at the store, it did not occur to me that the "A" meant that it was intended for an A clarinet, as it would be quite a long barrel to be used for an A. I had assumed that it was merely a model designation. Is there truly any difference between A and Bb Moennig barrels? Should I return mine and find one designated for a Bb? I am happy with the intonation and tonal quality that it gives me. Thanks!

While the dimensions of the A and Bb barrels are different dimensions, the real issue is how they play. I have known players who will play the same barrel on both instruments. If it plays good, it's good.

The A barrel is supposed to be more narrow, with a 4 thousands of an inch difference

The A and the Bb R13 barrels have different internal dimensions. This is true for both the stock and the Moennig versions.
If it works ok for you, then use it on your Bb. Yes, it might be a bit long for the A-clarinet.

I use a 67 mm barrel on my Buffet A and Bb clarinets, a 62 1/2 on my Selmer. I used to use a standard Buffet Barrel, then a Meonnig then a Chadash and now I've been using a Backun 67 mm barrel for the past ten years on my Buffet clarinet. If it plays in tune, you know A 440 and is reasonably consistent through out the clarinet, then it's a keeper.
The difference in a standard Buffet barrel and all the others is the way it tapers in the bore. Generally the A barrel has a smaller bore as well. Sometimes, because of the way you voice or the mouthpiece you use, a player will actually do better with a smaller bore barrel on their Bb clarinet, hense, using an A barrel on a Bb barrel.
