Hello,
My student is on the way to Tanglewood Festival and he just called from the airport and said that his clarinet case opend and he lost his mouthpiece (he had a very good Peter Eaton).
He has two more mouthpieces but he lost also his ligature. Is any one living near Lenox MA, and can give him a ligature for the next 2-3 days, until we will sent him one from Israel?.

I'm not able to help, though I'm sure that it will be no problem for him to borrow a ligature. However the most obvious solution is, of course, to tie the reed on with a shoelace (or, indeed, any string-like thing he can find).

I'm not at all close to Lenox, but I second the shoelace idea. In fact, it's David Pino's favorite ligature. In his book, The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing (p. 21), he suggests using "an ordinary black 27-inch shoestring (the flat, wide ribbon type)." He removes the little piece of plastic from one end, and winds the shoelace six times around the mouthpiece, starting with the cut-off end. He concludes by taking the loose end, which still has the plastic tip, and "[wedging] that point in between a couple of . . . earlier wrappings."
I haven't tried this, but perhaps I will soon. Best of luck to your student at Tanglewood!

Thank you so much Ed. I did write to the clarinet teacher but he didn't answer.
One of the administration people gave him a ligature to use until he will get the one that I sent him today.
