Kal and I worked extensively on "Un Seul" once he knew I was giving the NYC and Asia premieres of it.
Although very precise and demanding in what he wanted and what he didn't want in the interpretation, he generously allowed me to bring a lot of my own ideas to the piece.
The piece may look a little "dry" or simple on paper, but it really came to life after working on all the subtleties - whether explicit or implied in the manuscript.
As usual, it was great to work with the composer of a piece.
He was very touched by the Tokyo performance, especially the long pause before the audience applauded; that was exactly the effect he wanted "Un Seul" to have on people.
