I traded a C* tenor mouthpiece for a box of clarinet mouthpieces today. In the box was two Vandoren M13, a James Kanter and six assorted hard rubber "no name" mouthpieces marked FRANCE and V2. The M13s played well, so I feel I got a fair deal. I'm curious about the Kanter. It appears to be the same blank as the no name mouthpieces, but all it says on it is FRANCE to the left of the table and James Kanter on the front that looks like it was written with a hand held electric engraver. Is this Kanter worth anything?

The obvious answer being "if it plays well, it's worth something"... Kanter is held in high regard, though this mouthpiece may have been made for (or chosen by) someone with different preferences to you.

One recently sold on eBay for $810. Use the search function here to search for "James Kanter" without the quotes for some additional information.

Well, I cleaned it this morning and gave a try. It's not my cup of tea, but I'm sure someone would like it.
I'm still looking for that mouthpiece that is free-blowing, gets the sound I like and every reed works on it like it's my best reed.

Let me know when you find it! It may not work for me, but at least I'd know that it was possible!

I use one of Walter Grabner's CXZ_K14 mouthpieces, free blowing and very reed friendly. Walter is a sponsor here on the board.

I second the recommendation of Walter Grabner's CXZ_K14 mouthpieces but for the record I've tried/owned also his AW personal,SW-1 personal and Chicago C35 and they all are different from the K-14 meaning that they are all bit more resistance in feeling of course with the right strength reed.
I really like his shorter faced SW-1 personal but unfortunately he now only makes medium faced mouthpieces.
