It's a Leblanc Backun instrument with a MoBa barrel and bell. I think it's the Symphonie rather than the Legacy, since, viewing it in HD and full-screen, I don't see the LH Ab/Eb lever, or a third set of posts in the left little finger group to hold it.
Dynamite playing.
The second half of the piece is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh38aSVxBVQ.
He puffs his cheeks a lot, and lets his throat expand. It's not for circular breathing, since I don't hear him doing that except at the very end. Presumably it's to provide more space for resonance. Remember Tony Pay's interesting sequence of postings on Prof. Wheeler's article, including an artificial clarinet embouchure. Apparently with enough resonance space, everything sounded good without further effort.
Who was Franch-Ballester's teacher, and where did he learn this?
