How the weather change affect clarinet setup

Instrument - R13 A and Bb (1 yrs and 8yrs)
Reed - Rico reserve
Barrel - Moening
Mouthpiece - M13 lyre and M30
Ligature - Bonade, Rouvner Mark III

In winter, I play on #4 until this Febuary I start to use 3.5+ then recently 3.5. For mouthpiece, I can use both M13 lyre and M30 in winter but now the M30 is too much resistance.

I guess the reason is the wood expand during summer. May be people using greenline clarinet don't have this feeling as the material is more stable.

Any comment and thoughts?

The cane is affected by humidity. I too use a lower strength reed in the high humidity of the late spring and summer months.

One reason why the M30 may be too resistant in the summer is due to how the cane swells and now vibrates against the facing. I don't play an M30, but I understand it has a long facing. You may have to try a different brand of reed during the summer or adjust the reed (take a bit off the heart area and further down on the sides).

My favorite reeds in the winter are Gonzales RC #4's, but in mid summer, they are way too stiff and I go to a 3.5 or Vandoren blue box #4.
