Has anyone attended any of the various summer music festivals in Finland, and if so any advice or impressions? Do they allow amateurs a chance to play informally with other musicians on the fringes? I'm thinking of the classical festivals rather than the jazz ones. There seem to be dozens of them. It's a lovely country, and my idea is to combine my summer vacation with some music appreciation and, if possible, music making.

SHOT (student wind orchestra twente), an orchestra i play in has been to the Seinajöki wind festival in 1998. It was the first time they organized the festival. The organization was very helpfull in trying out different idea's. eq.: we were supposed to do some marching at a marketplace, but SHOT doesn't do marching. No problem, we'll put some chairs over there.
