I just looked at the Wikipedia clarinet page. There's plenty of stuff there, but it definitely needs work. For example, it says that the basset clarinet exists only in A and that the Mozart Concerto was rewritten for it, and woodwind.org is mentioned only for a fingering chart.

Hi Ken, I cant get into Wiki Cl right now, will try later, but an AOL search gave me many Wiki sites to look at,so maybe there are others than the "generic". It/they should be heavily referenced as we devotees know and research. It prob. needs our help, volunteers arise, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

It does not say the basset clarinet exists only in A; it lists basset in A (and in no other keys) as among the "most important" sizes/keys in the family, not as the sole existing possibility. Note that the article on the basset clarinet (linked from the clarinet article) discusses basset clarinets in other keys. There is also a 'clarinet family' article that goes into more detail on sizes/keys than the clarinet article. Again, it's linked from the clarinet article.

As for the Mozart concerto, it says it was written for the basset clarinet, though it was previously sketched as a concerto for basset horn. I believe this is correct.

As for woodwind.org, Wikipedia is not a web index.

Finally, if it 'needs work', the best thing to do is to do the work. That's the whole point of a wiki.

Personally, I have always preferred the (un)encyclopedia definition.

I found the rationalization of the Bb, A, C clarinets to be of great interest. As a fellow who is spending several hours a week working off of cycles of 4ths in Db Major, I'm thinkin': "gosh it would be good to have had someone put this stuff into a transposing clainet in the key of A!
