Hi, I am researching a clarinet for a friend of mine who knows NOTHING about them, and she says that it is a wood clarinet that has been in her parents posession for a LONG time and she says that it is a "Pierre Maure" I haven't found anything on this company on the internet, and the closest thing that I have found is "Pierre Morceau" could it be that she is talking about the same company and she just spelled it wrong? Or is there a long lost Pierre Maure instrument company out there somewhere? Any info would be fanstastic. thank you! -Jeremy

Mark, where is this New Langwill index found?
---
It can be ordered from Tony Bingham's in London. About $125.00 . I bought a copy to help out on the BBoard.
Tony Bingham's specializes in and publishes instrument (woodwind) reference books. Their address is the Equipment/Has Anyone Heard of? section here on Sneezy.

Thanks Mark, it turns out a friend of mine has a copy of the index...it's strange that it doesn't have this brand of clarinet in there...I actually spent many hours looking for it yesterday and I found an article about a Pierre Maure flute that was pretty old and sold for ALOT at an auction, but I still can't seem to find anything about the clarinet...would the serial # help any? Thanks

No - if the manufacturer isn't in there, then nothing helps.

I have seen a Pierre Maure oboe. It was stamped "made in France". It was a nicely made instrument. How much did the Maure flute sell for? Thanx. Dave.

I have and play a Pierre Maure clarinet. I love it and it has great sound.
I bought it used a year ago for $350.00. Don't know anything about the brand, but the sound is very good for my home use.

Hmmm... could it (by chance) be a Malerne?
Methinks out loud.

It could well be, Chris, perhaps made by Martin Freres, Cousenon, SML, Gerard, others? in the 40-50's when "being French Made" was ?best?. Likely a "stencilled" name for US import/sale. Luck, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
