I have a school audition where I have to play the first part of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. What I'd like to know is at about what tempo should I play it. I've seen the Martin Frost interpretation of the piece and I'd like to play somewhere around that tempo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVXFONkLPok&feature=related). If you know around what tempo he plays it (I'd guess between 110-120) then please tell me, or if you've played it before , at what tempo did you play it.

I believe that the piece sounds best when performed between 116-126. In any audition it is important to prepare to the best of your ability...but please don't play faster than you can.
Martin Frost could perform the piece at 160 if he wanted to. He doesn't because the piece would sound ridiculous at that tempo!

I believe in playing faster than the normal player because that's what I personally prefer. Frost adds tons of embellishments but I'm not sure if you should do that for an audition.
The best thing to do would be to play what is written for the audition for the version of Mozart you are auditioning on. I think that is the most important thing to remember.
(I believe the standard speed is 112).
