Some F/friends* and I are starting up a clarinet/cello/piano trio. Long-term, we're aiming at being able to play Mozart's K498 Kegelstatt, for which I found a cello version, but right now we'd like some more manageable music to help us learn to play together, especially since the pianist (a gifted solo improviser and former--long time ago--advanced piano student) has a great deal of anxiety about playing composed music in an ensemble.
Any recommendations? Down the road I may buy SmartScore to expand the available repetoire, but right now I can't afford that solution. I have the Clarinet Institute CD, and have been poring through IMSLP and the RU/Sibley Library, but haven't been able to track anything down; and most of the not-free sites are rather parsimonious about page samples that would give me a sense of a piece's technical level.
BTW, to give you an idea of what I mean by intermediate, I'm likely the weakest link in the trio technically, and the Kegelstatt is a stretch for me right now. Which is, of course, one reason I want to work on it!
I'd also be interested in cello/clarinet duets, as well. (I've already ordered Music for Two from Last Resort music.)

He seems to have a few pieces with that arrangement. You might give him a call and talk to him about your needs, He is always very helpful.

The Kegelstatt is for clarinet, viola and piano. Do you perhaps mean the Beethoven Trio for clarinet, cello, and piano?
I have a piece I composed about a year ago for the combo you mentioned, all the parts are around an intermediate level, the clarinet part only goes up to high D, I actually wrote it for a high school student trio that one of my students had formed at school. I can easily send you the score, parts, and audio file if you'll send me your email address (sorry haven't checked if it's in your profile).

Meri, thanks so much! I'll private message you. Yes, I know the Kegelstatt is for viola, but I found a modified version that subs a cello.

If you can transpose at all from C parts then look for "normal" piano trios (violin/cello/piano) and play the violin part!

Unfortunately, I can't transpose very well at all. It's something I keep meaning to add to my practice sessions, but haven't yet.

Actually, Jeff, I've been lusting after a C clarinet for some time, since I'd rather concentrate my practice time on things other than transposition.
But my first priority for an instrument in addition to my R13 is a bass clarinet, since I'm playing that in two small local groups, using an instrument borrowed from the local high school--an old Selmer 9 with what appear to be the original pads. Rather a struggle.

Others may disagree with me but I think the Beethoven Op. 11 is one of the least technically challenging works for clarinet in the genre. (Can't speak to the level of difficulty for the cellist and the pianist.) Also the Brahms trio might be in your range. I just saw the Brahms, including parts on IMSLP today and I suspect the Beethoven is available as well. Shouldn't cost anything to have a look.

Unfortunately, I can only find the Brahms for A clarinet, which I don't have. I'll have to wait until I can afford SmartScore to transpose it.
