Greetings all,

I am a member of a very good woodwind quintet, and we're looking to expand our repertoire. What are your favorite pieces? We have thoroughly enjoyed:

HARBISON QUINTET
D'RIVERA TROPICAL NIGHTS
NIELSEN QUINTET
DAMASE VARIATIONS
BARBER SUMMER MUSIC

Please add at will!

Thanks,

John Parrette

John,

Our group enjoyed the Mason Jones arrangement of Le Tombeau de Couperin.
Another good one is Early Hungarian Dances by Ferenc.

My personal favorite is the Quintette en Forme de Choros by Villa-Lobos; a mind-blowing combination of advanced musical techniques and pure jungle intensity.

The Nielsen and Barber are both excellent works, and I always have enjoyed performing the Francaix: lots of noodles, but some lovely harmonic writing.

The Reicha quintets are also great to have available for early romantic style.

It's a diverse and enjoyable repertoire, and I've played in some top notch quintets in the past.

Happy Quintetting!

Elliot Carter's works- woodwind quintet, woodwind quartet, and piano quintet- are all very fine pieces.

The Ligeti bagatelles and the 10 pieces are very nice as well.

I've really enjoyed playing D'Rivera's Wapango, and Mark Miller's arrangement of Bizet Carmen Suite.

Also if you have pianist, you could try the Ludwig Thuille Sextet - little known but great fun and with at least one tune that you won't be able to get out of your head.

Eric Ewazen "Roaring Fork". Thrilling to play, and good to listen to, as well.
