I heard yesterday from Michael Webster that he will be retiring from the clarinet professor position at the Shepherd School of Music after spring 2011. The formal search for a replacement should begin this fall. Having completed my masters there last spring, I can say first hand what an excellent environment it is for study, with one of the best orchestral training programs anywhere. Here are some excerpts from past concerts for anyone interested or considering study there:

Hopefully they will find an excellent successor to complement their other terrific faculty!

My good friend and fellow clarinetist James Johnson went to school there - you may know him. He is a fantastic player. The entire wind department is top notch!

My whole family (except for me) went to and graduated from Rice. My brother graduates from there this coming weekend -- mechanical engineering!
