I live in the west coast and have been looking for local makers but came up empty handed. Or did I just miss someone or are there really no makers of clarinets in the west coast?

I remember reading about someone in San Francisco with some very fine hand-built instruments, including some designed for an odd scale based on the twelfth instead of the octave. Also, conventional clarinets. If I remember right, they were very expensive.
I've been searching the interwebs, but have some difficulty tracking them down.
If this sounds familiar to anyone, please chime in, correct me, contribute, etc.

Daniel Deitch in San Francisco makes historical clarinets, chalmeaux, flutes, and bassoons, as well as general woodwind instrument repairs and restoration.

Steven Fox is definitely who I was thinking of. In my mind, SF must have registered as San Francisco. I blame faulty memory. Toronto is definitely not California. Sorry about that, but thank you for helping my memory!

When I visited Daniel Deitch's shop in February there was a newspaper article on the wall profiling him, which stated that he no longer makes any period instruments except baroque flutes, due to a repetitive stress injury. I couldn't find any reference to this on-line, but, indeed, his website now lists only baroque flutes.
He is still an awesomely-talented woodwind restorer/repair technician.
