Hey everybody. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on my audition. Hahaha i know that you all did not hear my audition, but I was palnning on just describing how it went and what the judges said. And hopefully you guys could analyze what it all means and sya "good audition or bad audition". Thanks
BTW, there were two judges and a video camera. One was a tall African-American man and the other was a Caucasian man with long brown curly hair. Anyone know who they are?
First they aslked me what i prepared. I said that I was palying Messager's Solo de Concours, second movement of weber's second clarinet concerto, cappricio espagnole 1-5, midsummernight's dream scherzo, and scheherazade 1+2.
I then proceeded with the solo de concours and I pllyed all of it. Then I played the weber got half way and they stopped me.
Then I play capprico espagnole mov 1 and 3. Then they asked for another. I palyed about 1 min of the scherzo, and htey asked for antoher. then I played about the first page of mov 2 of scheherazade (including the 3 solo things). Then they said htat would be enough.
However, they never asked for scales or sightreading (but the sheet said that scales should be prepared and sightreading was possible). This is my first orchestra audition, so I'm not sure what this all means.

I'm a former principal clarinetist of the orchestra (there are many of us over the years). I'm pretty sure I know who the judges were but I think it is better that they not be revealed. It wouldn't make any different to the out come of the audition.
They have been using visual recording devices since I took my first audition for the orchestra in May of 1999. It is so they can go back and refer to auditions later if they need to. CYSO is about musicianship and I can assure you that they will only take your musical ability into consideration and nothing else such as race or gender.
I know you really want some feed back into how the judges perceived your audition but there really is no way to do. Just hang in there and try not to bite your nails off waiting for the result of the audition.
I'm curious, who are you studying with here in Chicago?

Thanks for the reply. I live in Palatine which is in hte suburbs about 35 minutes away. But I love clarinet so much that I am willing to make that drive :D I currently study with Sally Gerber.

Although, as James said, no one can really say for sure what this means, here are a couple of things I would take away from this:
You played a lot. This is a very good sign. If they were sure they didn't want you, I can't see why they'd let you play the entire solo de concours and all those excerpts, plus other stuff.
In the auditions I have taken here in college, although sight reading and scales can be asked for, the judges generally only use them (especially scales) if you are on the edge. If they are sure they want you, or sure they don't, they most likely won't ask for scales or sight reading.
I don't want to get your hopes up, but it sounds as though you played well and they liked what you had to offer. As long as you felt like you played well, then I would be happy with this audition no matter the outcome. I imagine the CYSO would have a very high level of competition to get in, so best of luck for your results.
