 Good clarinet reviews site

When I type in "clarinet reviews" on Google I get tons and tons of junky links to places like Epinions.com and Shopping.com. This makes searching for actual reviews really annoying and frustrating.

Do you know of any really good sites for serious and in-depth reviews of various models? And is there a way to avoid getting all those bogus hits when I do a search?

Try the AllMusic site:
http://www.allmusic.com/

AllMusic is a search site where you can find recordings listed by composer, by artist or by title. There's a link from the main page to a section of the site for classical music. Some of the listings for recordings include links to reviews.

That's still a terribly hit-or-miss proposition. Most of the classical music I've looked up does not have a link to a review. But when there is a review, it tends to be more educated and legitimate than whatever happens to pop up through a Google search. Google drives me nuts. I have to use it a lot, but too much totally irrelevant junk turns up.

If the reviews are here, how come I can't find them? I too expected there to be reviews here, but the links on this site are just making me run around in circles.

Yes Karlbonner, I've yet to see a review of the new Schrieber standard boehms which are apparently student and intermediate Buffets that are made in Germany. They have the old wrap-around speaking key on them. I may get one later as there is a large wind instrument music store here in Australia that sells them. (Oz Winds) Just waiting for a few reviews though.

There are quite a few reviews of Tom Ridenour's Lyrique RCP 576 bc clarinet though. I recently got one and though it is very nice to play I'm not all that happy about it's general intonation which could be caused by me carrying over embouchure habits from my other Clarinet. But it's early days as yet and the Lyrique could still live up to Tom's claim of it having excellent intonation. Stay tuned to this site ;)

My Bb Lyrique RCP 576 arrived several weeks ago and took about 4 days to get to me here in Australia. It arrived in good condition. The case is of good quality with fancy latches on it. It looks like it could take a bit of rough treatment. The only thing I had to do before I assembled it was to grease the tenon corks. (lightly). Then it was straight down to the enjoyment of playing it and first impressions are very good. The mechanism is very smooth and quite. I don't mind the nickle plating as it feels good. However I had my reservations concerning the 'fish-tail' speaker key. I asked Tom (Ted actually) to send me the standard speaker key as a spare just in case I didn't like the new style one but I was ignored. Anyway I'm getting quite use to the feel of it. Here is a Clarinet , after you have spent good money on it ,you don't have to send it away to have tweaked. Tom has apparently already done this. This Clarinet is ready to go straight out of the case. There are a couple of things I can nit pick about but at the moment it's still early days.

I received my Lyrique 576BC just a few weeks ago and have the same general impressions as Barry Vincent above. Zesty robust tone, flawless construction, quiet keywork, and the regulation was set up just the way I like. It's everything I hoped it would be, and then some.

I've tried mine with a range of mouthpieces and intonation varies rather significantly based on mouthpiece choice. It seems the smaller-chambered pieces I have on hand work better with my Lyrique. Intonation has been good with a Ridenour Encore piece, and also with a Woodwind Company G8.

Curiously, I've had the WW G8 lying around for years but never used it because it was so out of tune on my other horns. Go figure.
